Today I talked to a man at the end of the 40s. He had a shopping cart crowned with a suitcase. Very intelligent. I asked him about the homeless situation and whether it is something society should be worried about.
He said that the reason people are homeless is that society has been rude to them. He is comfortable being without a home as he has come to accept it. He has a longterm girlfriend. Uses crystal meth on a regular basis. He says some of us need it to do well on the job. He looked straight. I never would have guessed he was an addict.
One of the drawbacks of being homeless, he told me, is that people rob you. It's par for the course, another thing you get used to. One night he awoke to find two males standing over him. What else could they want but to rob him? he said.

I heard about this forum last night at the Emerg Festival reading. I was sad to hear that people that live in tents get robbed. I have a question: do the people that live in tents want secure housing? Or do they like the tents? If we provided them with housing, would they go live in the housing or would they come back to the tents?
